I Just Can't Seem to Get Motivated

I just can't seem to get motivated.

What's wrong with me?

Probably nothing, except...

You're tired, you're overwhelmed and you don't feel like you're getting anywhere.

Ever have days like that?  We all have them at one time or another, it's when they come with alarming regularity that we need to sit up and take notice.

It's when day after day, week after week, we feel like nothing matters, we'll do it tomorrow, we feel constantly jaded and lacking in energy.

It almost feels like we're depressed but we know we're not, we've been to the doctors and he says it's just stress, take some time for yourself and you berate yourself for wasting the time going in the first place.  The doctor wasn't likely to come up with anything positive you think to yourself.  But hey, they're probably right.

Stress and overwhelm take soo much energy out of us and they make us feel jaded and unable to cope.

Here are three ways you can help lift your mood and energy levels before you begin trying to sort out what you need to do in your business.  You need to look after you first and foremost, before anyone else.  If you're a carer in any kind of capacity, you'll know the demands on your time and so, as the old saying goes, put your own oxygen mask on first before you help others with theirs.

1. Walking

Exercise is a great mood enhancer, it takes us out of our current situation and perspective and instantly catapults into a world of different sights and sounds, fresh air and the ability to reach out to others, if only with a friendly smile.

So get out of the house and take a walk, if it's only round the block for ten minutes but preferably somewhere green for just half an hour if you can manage that.  It will release endorphins or the 'feel good' factor into your brain.

2.  Gratitude

Whilst you're out and about taking a much needed break from your work environment, workload and the stress that goes with it, begin considering what you're actually grateful for.  Instead of focusing on the negative, make a mental list of all the positive things in your life.  Count them off on your fingers and get up 10 before you go back to your desk.

Changing up your mindset like this will begin to fine tune it to re-program itself when you are feeling down and miserable by kicking in and focusing on what's good about your life.  Just the sheer fact that you can walk down the street is number one on the list, there are many people who aren't afforded even that kind of freedom.

3.  Fun

Once you've got your 10 gratitude items, then start to think about what fun activity you can engage in.  This doesn't have to be anyone else's idea of fun, it's yours.  It might be going to a local fun fair, or curling up on the sofa with a good book, flying a helicopter or pitching the tent in your garden and spending a night under the stars.

What do you do to have fun?

Build a fun activity into your week and from now on, make it a regular occurence to build them in.  You are important, so make time to recharge your batteries.

Once you've recharged yourself, you'll be far better equipped to take on the challenges of the workload and life will start to feel better the more in control you are.
